Upper Mustang Trek | Nepal Wonders Treks & Expedition P. Ltd


Mustang a forbidden Kingdom which is also known as the desert of Nepal. It has been able to retain its traditional authentic culture which is encircled with Tibetan’s culture. It was a part of Tibetan Kingdom. Lo Monthang still retains as a capital of  Mustang. Most of the part of land are barren landscape which is similar to Tibetan plateau. The Upper Mustang was opened strictly limited numbers of trekkers only in 1992 because to protect the local traditions from outside influence as well as to protect environment. It is restricted area a special permit is required for trekkers. Mustang is very popular trekking region in Nepal. It lies in northern part at the end of the Kali Gandaki, beyond the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Normally the trek starts passing through the barren landscape ascending through the rocky trail descending downhill with the panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and other peaks. This Trail was a trade route between Nepal and Tibet in earlier. Generally the people follow the Buddhism. Upper Mustang is the place where Nepal first Monastery was build in Drakmar which is known as Laygay- Kar Gumba. It is the land of hidden paradise. Nowadays foreigners have to buy a permit of US$ 500(valid for 10 days, each additional day costs US$ 50 but permit are obtain by trekking agency).


Itinerary:-
                                                      








Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02:  Free day in Kathmandu for Permit preparation, Overnight at Hotel
Day 03:  Kathmandu to Pokhara by flight or Tourist bus& transfer to Hotel
Day 04: Jomsom – Kagbeni (2800m)
Early morning fly to Jomsom, it takes about 20 minutes to reach Jomsom (2710m). Trek starts from jomsom towards Kagbeni, we will walk almost straight trail along the bank of Kaligandai river. After walking for about 1 and half hour we will reach Ekle bhatti. After walking for about 45 minutes we will reach Kagbeni (2800m). In the evening we will visit ancient monastery and Kagbeni village. Overnight at lodge or tented camp in Kagbeni.

Day 05:Kagbeni – Chele (3050m)
Early morning we will walk towards Chele. After walking for about 3 hours we will  reach Tangbe, after walking about 1 hour we will reach Chhusang, here we will have lunch, after having lunch we will ascend for about 1 and half hours  towards Chele  crossing  Kaligandaki river. We will walk around Chele village and visit a monastery. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 06: Chele – Geling (3570m)
After breakfast we will start our journey towards Geling which a long day walk. After ascending for about 2 hours we will reach Samar village (3660m), and again descending for about half hour and ascending for about 1 hours we will reach Behana, there we will have a lunch. After lunch we will ascend for about 1 and half hour to reach Syangbochen (3880m). Again descending for about 1 hours we will reach Geling. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 07: Geling – Drakmar (3820m)
Early morning we will visit Geling Monastery, after breakfast  we will Walk for about 1 and half hours towards Nyi La Pass (4010m). After descending for about 1 and half hour we will reach Ghemi (3520m), after having lunch at Ghemi we will visit Monastery there. After slight ascend for about 2 hours we will reach Drakmar. Overnight at tented camp
Day 08: Drakmar – Lo Manthang (3810m)
After breakfast we will start our journey to reach Ghar Gompa, after walking about 1 hours we will reach Ghar Gompa, here we will visit ancient monastery. From Ghar Gompa we will walk  for about 2 hours towards Chogo La Pass (4230m) half hour descending and 1 and half hour ascending. After walking through slightly descending trail we will reach Lo Manthang. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 09: Lo Manthang – Namgyal – Thinggar – Lo manthang
This day we will start our journey towards Namgyal and Thinggar, by walk or by horse, by walk it takes 2 and half hours and by horse it takes 1 and half hours to reach Thinggar. We will visit monastery in Thinggar. We will return back towards Lo Manthang.
Day 10: Lo Manthang – Chosar– Lo Mangthang
This day we will or ride horse walk towards Chosar, it takes about 45 minutes to reach Chosar. We will visit famous Chosar monastery which has very interesting history, and also have a chance to see religious ceremonies around monasteries. We will return back towards Lo Manthang in the evening.

Day 11:Lo Manthang – Charang (3560m)
This day we will walk through slightly up down trail to reach Charang. This is an easy trail which will take approximately 3 and half hours. We will have lunch camp here. After having lunch we will walk around Monastery and CharangVillage.

Day 12:Lo Manthang – Charang - Ghargaun
This day we will walk for about 4 hours towards Dhigaun (3420m), here we will have lunch and start our journey towards Ghargaun. We will reach Ghargaun passing Surkhang and Yara village after 3 hours walk from Dhigaun. This trail is easy and is slightly 30 minutes uphill walk before reaching Ghargaun . Or we can stay 300 meter downwards from Luri Gompa with Monks and Lamas. Overnight at tented camp in Ghargaun.
Day 13:Ghargaun – Ghuma Thanti (4750m)
Early morning visit Luri Gompa. It will take 30 minutes to reach Luri Gompa from Ghargaun.  Luri Gompa is built on the steep cliff which is 1100 years old. People feel surprised to see the way it has been built carving the stones of the cliff. There is also a new Gompa 300 meters downwards from Luri Gompa. Here lama chants mantra and monks give lesson to their followers. We will ascend 3 hours on the way towards Damodar kunda. We will reach around 4900m and one hour ascend slightly towards on the top of the hill (5010m). Again we will descend half an hour towards Ghuma Thanti (4750m). Overnight at tented camp in Ghuma Thanti.

Day 14:Ghuma Thanti – Damodar Kunda (4890m)
This day we ascend 2 hours to reach Damodar Kunda Pass (5490m), here we will see spectacular view of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, TilichoPeak, Thorong Peak in the south and in front of the pass we will see very close view of Vrikuti himal, Sonam himal, Kumlung himal and many more peaks. After walking around 3 hours we will reach Damodar Kunda. Damodar kunda is a holy lake and is of religious important to Hindus. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 15: Damodar Kunda – Dhe Gaun (4300m)
This day we will return to Dhe Gaun ascending and almost descending trail. It will take around 7 to 8 hours to reach Dhe Gaun. Overnight at tented camp

Day 16:Dhe Gaun – Tange
This day we will walk towards Tenge through ascending and mostly descending trail.We will stay at Tange and get a chance to see real Tibetan type of lifestyle and culture.
Day 17:Tange – Paha (4218m)
This day we will walk towards Paha, we have to walk one and half hour straight crossing river stream and then ascend 3 hours towards Paha. There is a house for hindu pilgrims which is called Thanti. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 18:Paha – Tetang (3040m)
This day we will slightly walk uphill for about half an hour straight and again walk downhill crossing river stream. If we want to Kagbeni we will stay at Chusang and if we want to go Muktinath we have to walk uphill towards Tetang village. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 19: Tetang – Muktinath (3800m)
This day we will almost ascend around 7 hours towards Gylaula Pass (4080m). After crossing Pass we will reach Muktinath. Overnight at lodge or tented camp.
Day 20: Muktinath – Jomsom
We will walk 1 and half  hours towards Jomsom through Jharkot Gompa. Jhorkot Gompa is also one of the ancient Gompa.  After walking 5 hours or by jeep drive we will reach Jomsom. Overnight at lodge or tented camp.

Day 21: Jomsom – Pokhara – Kathmandu
Early morning we fly Jomsom to Pokhara and fly to Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel
Day 22: Rest day in Kathmandu
Day 23: Final departure
